Cdnow.com and Brazil

Brazil’s place in the world wide web is growing rapidly. In March 2008, it was estimated that there were 50,000,000 users of the internet in Brazil. Brazil also is the country whose inhabitants spend the most time online. Brazilians spend almost twenty hours online per month. Currently, Brazil’s number one online sold products are books, magazines and newspapers (17%). Following printed materials, CD’s and DVD’s are the number two online purchased product in Brazil at 16%, and the third most purchased product is electronic goods at 15%. Brazil has a comparable site to eBay called MercadoLivre, which is the number one online ecommerce site (Economist Intellegence Unit). Because the usage of the internet is growing so rapidly in Brazil, e-commerce sales have doubled in the last two years. Brazil is a very promising country in the area of ecommerce, and looks to have a bright future in that arena.

CDNow.com is an online music and video store that was founded in 1994. It is one of the original success stories of online multimedia. Along with being very successful as a vendor for music products, CDNow.com was also very successful with early online advertisement and email marketing. It was at the forefront of the online marketplace in the late 1990’s into 2000. CDNow.com was purchased by amazon.com in 2001 and is now run in conjuction with that company. The site is run on the same principals as amazon.com and has all of the same procedures for ordering products. This site does offer a wide variety of music media. Unlike other music sites, customers have the option of ordering vinyl records instead of CD’s.
