Darryl Lester
For my paper, I randomly chose Mr. Darryl Lester. While researching him, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that he is a member of my fraternity, Omega Psi Phi. Mr. Lester is doing great things to impact the African-American community. Before I explain the impact Mr. Lester has had on his community, let me provide some background about him. Mr. Lester is dual degreed with a Bachelor’s of Art in Economics from Wofford College and a Master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology from NC State University. He has worked as a leader in the education, non-profit and private sector with a vast of responsibilities as reflected in some of his previous job titles: Director of Community Leadership and Program Director; Program Director for 4-H Youth Development; Assistant Dean and Assistant Coordinator of African American Student Affairs. Mr. Lester’s education and previous work experience provides him with the leadership skills and experience to be an effective change agent.
Mr. Lester is a change agent. In my opinion, a change agent is an individual who can influence others to make differences which are beneficial to someone else. Mr. Lester serves as a change agent by bringing awareness to the African-American community regarding ways they can be more philanthropic. In addition, Mr. Lester has established and supports the creation of vehicles to allow African-American to give back to their community whether it is financial or by giving of one’s time and talents.
