Troy Ziegler BUS 100 Instructor: George Rigby September 6th, 2008 The Boston Beer Company The Boston Beer Company is the leading American brewer of handcrafted full-flavor beers. Jim Koche founded this company in 1984 when he brewed his first batch of Samuel Adams Boston Lager in his own kitchen. This beer became a huge success and has been voted “the best beer in America.” Four times since 2000. Internationally this company’sbeer has won in more taste testing competitions than any other brewery in the world. By 1995 many small, local and regional breweries beganto show up after the huge success of The Boston Beer Company. Today they produce over a million barrels of Boston beer products and are still less than 1% of the total US beer market. This company’s main focus is creating the best tasting beer possible and having so many different flavors to their beers, it’s really no surprise that The Boston Beer Company has become such a success in its business. One pillar of the program is Boston Beer's initial $250,000 payment to establish the Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream Micro-Loan Fund at ACCION USA. This fund will provide much needed capital that is often out of reach to lower and moderate income micro entrepreneurs whose businesses would not be approved for a bank loan. Instead of limiting its involvement to simple financial support, The Boston Beer Company will support its beneficiaries in other ways. They will develop and execute a series of business education and financial literacy seminars designed to meet the educational needs of food and beverage entrepreneurs.
