I have chosen to prepare a report regarding the building of an E-commerce Website. The report addresses predominantly issues such as planning / designing the Website and the software / hardware aspect of doing so.
1. Building an e-commerce Website: A systematic approach
Building a successful e-commerce Website is not an easy task. It is not simply a matter of how good and well-trained technologists and programmers you have working on it; building an e-commerce Website demands that you have a keen understanding of technology, but also business, social issues and a systematic approach.
Having a well-organized and sophisticated Website is one of the basic elements of today’s e-commerce.
1.1 Pieces of the site-building puzzle
There are many factors to building an e-commerce Website. Even though the manager will and most likely does have a technical team at his / her disposal, the entire site development must be closely monitored in order to avoid potential disasters and assure the Website is complying with the company’s wants and needs.
Major factors to consider here are, e.g. Human Resources, Organizational Capabilities, Hardware Architecture, Software, Telecommunications and Site Design.
1.2 Systems analysis / planning
Building an e-commerce site is a complex process, comprising of a series of steps. One methodology for understanding the business objectives of any system and designing an appropriate solution is the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
