Section 1: Business Problem Statement
Bravo Medical Center (BMC) is merging with five other medical centers to form the Health One Network. In addition to the merger requirements, BMC must bring its systems in compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to meet these challenges, Team B Consulting has identified the need for BMC to upgrade the current network infrastructure. The impact of not performing this upgrade would be non-compliance with HIPAA and possible loss of licensure. This Business Problem Statement will define the need for this redesign as well as the purpose, constraints and assumptions built into the project.
Business Need
Currently the BMC experiences unacceptable levels of system support due to outages and system latency. These symptoms influence workflow as well as productivity and customer service.
