Demonstrating Communication Skills
The demonstration of good communication skills is vital to the supervisory role, in order to be a leader one must be able to lead effectively and that begins with communication. First a supervisor must know what their personal style of communication is, in effect they need to know what form of communication works the most effectively for them, and they must be consistent. I believe that that most important aspect of demonstrating communication skills is not so much in what is said but the actions that follow. To be an effective communicator a supervisor must have knowledge and also they must stand behind and follow through with what they say. Communication is not only verbal but there are many ways to effectively communicate without using words, non-verbal communication, this is something that is different for every person. Ideas can be effectively communicated by a simple hand gesture or head nod. There are non-verbal communications outside of gestures, things like body language, eye contact, physical touch, and even tone of voice is a non verbal aspect of communication. Much can be communicated without even saying a thing a prime example of this is the stink eye, and by this I mean that look your mother gave you as a child that immediately let you know you were in for it; the look that is almost worse than the punishment. Simple things like these are ways to demonstrate communication skills.
