Introduction
Every organization, either big or small, behaves in such a way that distinguishes it one from another. Politics may be a major role in some companies while others simply base your advancement on your ability to do the job and the productivity level you display. Personal opinions and views are set aside in order to place the right person in the job.
Organizational behavior is defined as the study and application of knowledge about how people, individuals and groups act in organizations. It encompasses a wide range of topics, such as human behavior, change, leadership, teams, etc. (Schein, 1968).
Organizational behavior is also defined as the study of what people do in an organization and how that behavior affects the performance of the organization. And because organizational behavior is concerned specifically with employment-related situations, it should not be a surprise to find that it emphasizes behavior as related to concerns such as jobs, work, absenteeism, employment turnover, productivity, human performance, and management. (Organizational Behavior, 2005).
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) is an industry in which politics empower the company and the individuals. Train workers are part of a Union and those Union representatives control a majority of the behavior of the organization.
