Accurate Data
• Accuracy of data input is important. What method of data input would be best for each of the following situations and explain why:
• Printed questionnaires - Questionnaires are unique and could be quickly produced into thousands, by either typing the information into the computer once scanning the document to the computer. Once the computer or the printer has the information the document can easily be printed to as many copies needed for the individual.
• Telephone survey - The best method for telephone surveys is the input is retrieved by a person who then types the information into the computer for processing by using the keyboard to input the information.
• Bank checks – Bank checks are processed by a scanner called MICR which stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition. The MICR is a secure way of scanning the checks for private bank information that is then sent to the computer for processing.
• Retail tags – Bar code scanners are used for input of retail tags, because they can quickly input the information into the computer or the information can b typed into the computer by an individual.
• Long documents – Long documents can be scanned be using the method called OCR, which means Optical character Recognition, then the information is then saved to the computer for further processing or later use.
